Children’s Eye Exams

Our goal at Eyedeology is to ensure your child’s eyes remain healthy throughout life. We begin eye examinations with infants at the age of six months and annually thereafter. Early detection of eye problems is key to successfully preventing vision loss, and begins with an annual eye exam.

Did you know?

One in four children starting kindergarten this year may experience learning difficulties because they cannot see properly. Vision screening performed by your family physician or school nurse is not the same as an eye exam done by an Optometrist. Without a proper eye exam, a child may have difficulty knowing whether he or she is experiencing vision problems.

Common risk factors for vision problems include:

  • premature birth,
  • dry eye condition,
  • developmental delays,
  • complications during pregnancy or delivery,
  • turned or crossed eyes,
  • family history of eye disease and glasses wear
  • eye injury,
  • medical conditions
  • Increased screen time and less time spent outdoors

During your child’s eye exam, our Optometrist will review the following with you:

  • a thorough ocular and medical history,
  • assessment of how well the eyes work together,  eye focusing, & eye tracking,
  • an eyeglass prescription when required (some children may require a dilated exam to verify their prescription),
  • evaluation of eye health for common eye diseases as well as an indication of overall health,
  • 200° wide-field digital retinal photography using Optomap Technology (after the age of 8),
  • a personalized consultation with our eye doctors to discuss their results, preventative measures and vision solutions (glasses, contact lenses, Myopia control, vision therapy).
