Dr. Kiera Garner is a caring, detail-oriented optometrist with over 40 years of clinical experience and a longstanding interest in the relationship between vision, the brain and the body. Her approach extends beyond achieving 20/20 eyesight to understanding how visual information influences spatial awareness, visual comfort, movement and everyday function.
Dr. Garner earned her optometry education at the University of Waterloo. Throughout her career, she has developed particular clinical interests in neuro-optometry, traumatic brain injury (TBI), concussion-related visual difficulties, binocular vision disorders and neurofunctional spectacle prescribing.
An important focus of Dr. Garner’s work is understanding how an individual’s prescription may affect more than visual clarity. Through individualized assessments, she explores the use of therapeutic lenses, microprisms and tints to address visual comfort, binocular coordination and spatial perception. This approach considers how the visual system interacts with the surrounding environment and how selected optical interventions may support patients experiencing visual difficulties.
Dr. Garner works with patients experiencing double vision, eye turns, visual discomfort and difficulties following concussion or traumatic brain injury. Her clinical interests also include the relationship between vision, posture, balance, movement and sensory integration.
She is a Fellow of the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation Association (FOVDR) and has pursued extensive continuing education in behavioural and developmental optometry, vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation.
Her professional development includes completion of all four levels of the Optometric Extension Program (OEP) Clinical Curriculum, all modules of Sanet Vision Therapy and Brenda Montecalvo Vision Therapy training, and all three levels of education through the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA).
Dr. Garner has also undertaken additional training in neurofunctional lenses, therapeutic and postural prisms, visual rehabilitation following brain injury, visualization, primitive reflex integration, sensory-motor development and advanced syntonic phototherapy.
Her ongoing commitment to learning includes participation in international professional study groups, including the Tuesday Think Tank vision therapy study group and Dr. Deborah Zelinsky’s study group.
At Eyedeology, Dr. Garner brings decades of experience, clinical curiosity and a thoughtful, individualized approach to patient care. She believes in understanding how each patient experiences their visual world and exploring appropriate ways to improve visual comfort and everyday function.
Her goal is to help patients better understand their visual challenges and feel supported throughout their care.
