Father’s Day Activities & Eye Care Tips

fathers-day-eye-care

Show Dad how much you appreciate him and all he does by planning some Father’s Day activities. Here are some ideas and how to look out for your eyes at the same time.

Breakfast in Bed

Let Dad sleep in for a bit and bring him some breakfast in bed. There’s no particular eye protection required for this activity, but you can boost his eye health when cooking for him. Serve whole-wheat bread, toasted, or other whole grains like oats or quinoa for breakfast with a low glycemic index and that is rich in vitamin E, zinc, and niacin, which can help promote overall eye health. Eggs, a staple of breakfast, are also full of vitamins and nutrients like lutein and vitamin A that protect against night blindness and dry eye, promoting eye health and function. Make an omelet to incorporate things such as kale, spinach, and other leafy greens and colorful vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, and bell peppers, all of which have eye-healthy vitamins. Include a side of fresh fruits such as strawberries, cantaloupe, and berries, and a glass of orange juice.

Golfing

Treat Dad to a day of golfing, either with the kids or just with his buddies. You can even hire an instructor to help him improve his game and get some helpful tips. Just be sure that everyone out on the green is protecting their vision with sunglasses to block out harmful UV rays and possibly debris that can irritate or harm eyes.

Pampering

Spa days are not just for the ladies. Show that to Dad by treating him to an afternoon of a massage, haircut, and professional shave. Getting a facial will help soothe his skin, including the areas around the eyes.

Make sure that if you’re spending time outdoors, you have sufficient eye protection, whether it’s just sunglasses or protective gear for more high-contact activities.
